The threat of terrorist acts using homemade explosives (HMEs) calls for an innovative approach allowing for the early detection of such devices. An EU-funded project is addressing this critical issue with a view to evolving a system whereby the illicit production of explosives and drugs can be detected during their preparation and production phases.

A recent study evaluated an integrated non-invasive cardiac imaging technique for the detection of ischaemic heart disease (IHD).

Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of death across Europe. Although cardiovascular mortality rates, adjusted for age, are generally declining, the prevalence of IHD is increasing due to the emergence of new risk factors.

This prospect is set to become a reality, with viewers becoming their “own cameraman”: using their PC, tablet computer, or even the latest TV sets, they will be able to choose the angle they wish to view on their virtual cameras – live and in real time!
