The manufacture of ceramic tiles in the EU generates around 3 million tones of waste each year. LIFECERAM is a European-funded project led by the Institute of Ceramic Technology (ITC-UJI) in Castellón, Spain, that addresses this issue.

Right on schedule, LIFECERAM has achieved its goal of zero waste in the manufacture of ceramic paving through the design of a sustainable manufacturing process whereby elements of the final paving product incorporate the waste generated in other parts of the process. This new product is designed for use in urban paving.

EuroPruning highlights role for policy interventions in pruning-to-energy value chain

The EuroPruning project has held a dinner debate in the European Parliament to highlight that the pruning-to-energy value chain is possible, but that policy-makers need to establish a supporting framework and remove current barriers to the use of agricultural residues as an energy resource.

The Smart Systems community is growing quickly, and individual players are indeed now linking to form a living ecosystem. The Smart Systems Integration Capability Radar already includes nearly 1000 organisations active in this field – from Research through Design and Manufacturing all the way to End Users.

Munich, 21 June 2016. What does it take to bring robots from the lab to the market? According to the EU-funded project ECHORD++ it’s a close collaboration of industry and academia, a good sense of the user’s needs and, of course, money for research and development. At Automatica, seven research projects funded under the umbrella of ECHORD++ will present the results of their work. ECHORD++ will showcase projects from various fields in which robotic aid can soon be implemented.
