A European study is working to address gaps in knowledge of the role of immunoglobulin D (IgD) in autoimmunity onset. Literature reviews emphasise the importance of IgD autoantibodies and deregulated IgD-producing B cells in the development of inflammation-associated autoimmunity.

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) caused by the highly contagious FMD virus (FMDV) affects livestock and can cross the species-barrier to infect other cloven-hoofed animals. Until now the eradication of infected animals was the most reliable method for controlling the spread of FMD.

A European consortium tested the efficacy of a novel cationic peptide-based adjuvant for prophylactic and therapeutic vaccination. Apart from increased efficacy, exploitation of this formulation will reduce the cost of vaccine production, making them more affordable for developing countries.

More electric aircraft (MEA) power electronic converters have the potential to reduce the aviation industry's reliance on fossil fuels by migrating all non-propulsion functions to electricity. An EU-funded project has come up with a test bench to validate the safety and reliability of many of these components.
