Unravelling the pathophysiology of Addison's disease

Aiming to improve the quality of life (QOL) for patients suffering from Addison''s disease (AAD), an EU funded study investigated the genetic, immunological and clinical characteristics of the rare affliction. Along with the identification of factors that limit patients'' QOL, researchers also provided alternative therapeutic interventions.

Brains interfacing with machines – Good or bad?

Technological advancements have made it possible for the human brain to directly communicate with machines. Currently, there are no bioethics committees or regulatory bodies to adequately oversee these rapid developments due to their novelty and complexity.

Helping dementia sufferers and their carers

There is a need for more and better quality clinical research data on dementia sufferers and their informal caregivers. A multidisciplinary European consortium is tackling this issue, particularly with regard to the transition from formal home care to institutional long-term nursing care facilities.
