Safer winter navigation for oil tankers

European researchers are working towards increasing the safety and efficiency of winter navigation for large oil tankers traversing the Baltic Sea. Project efforts will contribute much-needed information on dynamic ice and compressive ice forces.

Designing better solar cells with atomic-level modelling

Detailed understanding of the physics occurring at interfaces is important for further progress in PV as well as for many other fields within materials science. EU has funded a project to better understand the loss mechanisms at interfaces in solar cells by employing modelling at the atomic level in combination with validation by experimental research.
