The prefix 'bio”'for plastics doesn’t mean that they are all easily degradable. Confusion over words often means people don’t recycle their waste properly

When dealing with bioplastics, definitions like “biobased”, “biodegradable” and “compostable” can generate confusion among consumers: this affects the way these materials are dealt with after use, resulting in a problematic waste management process.

Biobased plastics are merely derived from renewable sources, and not all are biodegradable. Another distinction is between biodegradable and compostable.

ETFE (Ethylene TetraFluoroEthylene) is regarded as a wonder material, with numerous economic and environmental benefits over traditional building materials. However, awareness of ETFE and its uses among architects and students remains low. To counter this, the ETFE Multifunction Module (ETFE-MFM) project has designed a training lecture to give an introduction to textile-based architecture, and ETFE in particular.

The lecture will provide an overview of architectural textiles, focusing in particular on ETFE, its qualities and its architectural uses.

Αυτά που βλέπουμε στο Σύμπαν δηλαδή η ορατή ύλη αποτελεί μόλις το 4%. Οι επιστήμονες αναφέρουν την ορατή ύλη ως «βαρυονική ύλη» και αυτή περιλαμβάνει τα πρωτόνια, τα νετρόνια και τα ηλεκτρόνια, όλα δηλαδή τα συστατικά από τα οποία αποτελούνται τα άτομα της ύλης που είναι τα «δομικά στοιχεία» των κοσμικών σωμάτων (άστρων, πλανητών, αερίων, σκόνης κλπ).
