Faster detection of food-poisoning bacteria

Listeria monocytogenes can live in raw milk products, vegetables and some processed fish and meat products and worryingly, thrives at fridge temperature. Rapid and effective sampling and detection of this bacterium in the agro-food industry and other sectors is now possible thanks to an EU-funded initiative.

Enhancing operations of small EU wineries

European winegrowers, typically small and medium-sized, family-owned companies and cooperatives, manage some 65 % of the world's wine production. An EU-funded initiative has advanced a system to reduce the impact of vineyard operations on the environment, and at the same time, strengthened capacity for quality production.

Engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) are showing up in novel devices at an astounding rate, often without any toxicological testing. EU-funded scientists carried out comprehensive studies to predict risk and protect human health and the environment.

Microtubule dynamic regulation

Microtubules are a component of the cytoskeleton, found throughout the cytoplasm and are very important in many cellular processes.An EU study investigated how the effects of microtubule-targeting (MT) anti-cancer compounds are modulated by the microtubule end-binding (EB) proteins, the core proteins of the microtubule interaction network.
