Social responsibility, the main motivation of minority-language radio journalism

The UPV/EHU researcher Irati Agirreazkuenaga-Onaindia has developed a new methodology for studying the profiles, working habits and perceptions of Basque and Scottish Gaelic-speaking radio journalists. The study confirms that social responsibility is the main motivation for the EITB and BBC journalists.

Researchers recreate photosynthesis to power devices

Nature has perfected the art of using the Sun to fuel growth. A team of international researchers looked into what is needed to recreate the process artificially. The results could have various uses, from an alternative to petrol to ultradense computer memories or highly efficient solar cells.

Building blocks to safer buildings

Precast or ready-made building structures offer a number of advantages when compared to more traditional construction techniques, in terms of time and cost savings. However, the vulnerability of joints and connections between assembled precast elements is widely recognised as a potential safety issue, especially in earthquake-prone areas.

Unravelling the pathophysiology of Addison's disease

Aiming to improve the quality of life (QOL) for patients suffering from Addison''s disease (AAD), an EU funded study investigated the genetic, immunological and clinical characteristics of the rare affliction. Along with the identification of factors that limit patients'' QOL, researchers also provided alternative therapeutic interventions.
