Fish research represents a vast area of knowledge and challenges for Europe. An EU-funded project is building a strong network of infrastructures that will steer the industry through these difficulties and gear the sector towards further excellence.
Aquaculture is all about the interaction between humans, fish and the environment. It is about sustainable feed production, management technologies, genetics, product quality, human safety and more. Such a diverse area needs coordinated expertise, infrastructures and biological resources.
'Aquaculture infrastructures for excellence in European fish research' (Aquaexcel) represents a collaboration between 17 partners and 23 facilities to strengthen these networks. The aim is to improve access to key research infrastructures in Europe, to promote collaboration, and to bridge the gap between research and industry.
The goal of creating an online inventory of available research infrastructures has already been achieved. In addition, descriptions of fish traits, environmental conditions and standard measurement methods are available online.
