The award for “Best on-going Project” of the Industrial and Materials Technologies in the FP7 was given to Dr Dimitrios Niarchos, Coordinator of the FP7 Project Rare Earth Free Permanent Magnets.
The Industrial Technologies 2014 Conference integrated nanotechnology, biotechnology, advanced materials and new production technologies. The event offered opportunities for developing valuable research and industry collaborations, and showcased cutting-edge research, latest innovations and rising companies from all around Europe.
The main topics included:
- European and global developments in the high-tech arena
- Re-industrialisation and regional development in Europe
- Technological and entrepreneurial opportunities, especially for the Balkan and Mediterranean states, and
- Opportunities in Horizon 2020 in the field of enabling technologies.
The organizers decided to give a number of awards for projects completed under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) as well as for on-going projects. More than 60 applications were submitted and an international advisory group made the selection.
The Project Rare-Earth Free Permanent Magnets (REFREEPERMAG, www.refreepermag-eu.eu), coordinated by Dr. Dimitrios Niarchos, Former President and now Director of Research at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of the NCSR “Demokritos”, received an award as one of the “best-on going projects” in FP7 of the EU. This is a great honor for the consortium but also for the NCSR “Demokritos”, demonstrating not only the excellent scientific performance of the team into new areas of materials science but also management and leadership skills. The same group was awarded in 2005 the DESCARTES prize for their work “Ultrahigh density of Magnetic Recording Media”.
