The objective of the event is firstly, to debate the dimension of space based services and applications for existing EIPs with the NEREUS-membership and relevant institutional player and secondly, to launch the dialogue with representatives of the 5 existing EIPs (Raw Materials, Water, Active and Healthy Ageing, Sustainable Agriculture, Smart Cities) and introducing them to the added value and potentials of Europe’s space systems. The debate is meant to bring space solutions to the societal challenges addressed by existing EIPs.
The initiative has to be seen in the context of a broader societal as well as commercial exploitation of Europe’s space flagships (EGNOS/Galileo and Copernicus) which is a key element to support the competitiveness of European space industries and place them in a pivotal role within the “smart” development path of regions. In this respect a novel approach at a large European scale will be discussed to better connect the space with the non-space sector and bring the development of space applications and space uses forward.
