Epigenetic reprogramming during development

Identifying the molecular determinants involved in epigenetic remodelling during development is envisaged to impact the newly emerged technology of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. Given the promise of iPS cells in treatment of diseases, REPROGRAMMING project’s study outcomes on the DNA demethylation process has important medical implications.

Combatting the pine wood nematode in Europe

Since the arrival of the pine wood nematode (PWN) in Portugal, and its spread by the local longhorn beetle, the native pine has proved extremely susceptible. This is a serious problem since Europe's pine forests are a valuable economic, social and environmental resource.

Recharging research into lithium batteries
