European joint programming agenda

The EU has been investing heavily in research that uses public resources to ensure European competitiveness on the global front through the Horizon 2020 initiative. An EU-funded project enabled the hosting of a conference on joint programming to optimise resource allocation and collaboration.

Enhancing human stem cell culture

Using human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) for research and therapy is challenging but the potential rewards make up for the trouble. Safe and effective use of hESC culture in research, industrial and clinical applications could be achieved with reduced reliance on animal cell- and tissue-derived biological reagents.

Open access for public health

Scientific writing and open access publishing are extremely important for public health at global level. A large scale training program based on the train the trainer model was developed and implemented across Europe and Latin America on the basis of a bidirectional exchange of experioences and best practices.
