New sensory tool gives industry food for thought

EU researchers have developed a new system to monitor industrial food processing in real time, an innovation that could have real commercial potential.

The EU-funded MUSE-TECH project has developed an innovative new system to monitor industrial food processing in real time by combining three different sensors into one easy-to-use tool. Positive test results suggest that the device could help food makers across a number of sectors to achieve greater processing efficiencies and ensure high standards of safety.

New AMYPAD project will investigate the value of β-amyloid brain scans as a diagnostic and therapeutic marker for Alzheimer’s disease

The Amyloid imaging to prevent Alzheimer’s disease (AMYPAD) Initiative is a research initiative aiming to improve diagnosis and management of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) through β-amyloid PET imaging. AMYPAD will apply this type of imaging to patients who are suspected to be in the early stages of AD to determine its clinical added value in diagnosis and patient monitoring and to develop data to establish its prognostic value in therapeutic clinical trials.

The frequency and severity of the latest extreme weather events in Europe has sent out a strong alarm signal, urging both local authorities and scientists to act. Part of the solution to counter the devastating effects of floods on human communities could be long-term climate forecasting, backed by assessments on the vulnerability of towns and cities

As centres of innovation and growth, European cities are home to around 75% of the continent’s population and use about 80% of the energy it produces.
