Bioeconomy Innovations: Tough Starting Up

A German blog on innovations management estimates that between 175 and 3,000 ideas are needed to bring just one product or service to the market. Venture capitalists assume that only one out of ten investments pays, says expert Heinrich Cuypers. It seems that the benchmarks for creating a business are extremely tough. But they are not insurmountable.

First evidence that deep-sea animals are ingesting microplastics

Collaborative research funded by the ERC’s CACH project has announced the first real evidence that deep-sea animals are ingesting microplastics that are finding their way into the world’s oceans. This comes at a poignant moment as several governments are considering a ban on plastic microbeads, most often found in toiletries and cleaning products.

Real-time Indoor Air Quality Measurement: Five Demoboards and Development Kits developed by the IAQSense project

Real-time monitoring of indoor air quality has been driving the technology development throughout the EU-funded project IAQSense which came to its end on August 31, 2016. Five demo boards have been developed by the project, which provide access to the features of the different technologies for applications in VOC indoor monitoring, chemical threat detection and health monitoring.

The IAQSense project has developed 5 demo boards:

BIOrescue: Valorising mushroom compost to create innovative bio-based products

29 September, Pamplona – Creating added value products from mushroom compost is the objective of the BIOrescue project that was successfully launched today.

Mushroom production generates five million tons of compost each year in the European Union. This compost is currently landfilled or used for landscaping purposes even though it contains valuable organic components. In view of transforming this compost into a new income stream for mushroom producers, the BIOrescue project will develop innovative conversion processes to create bio-based products from mushroom compost.
