Imaging data reveals nanomedicines in lungs

An experiment carried out in Spain shows the distribution of an inhaled nanomedicine in rat lungs.

The PneumoNP project aims at developing new inhaled nanotherapeutic formulations to combat lung infection. The novel drug is comprised of an antibiotic carried by a nanoparticle. For this project, Spanish researchers from CIC BiomaGUNE track the location of the therapeutic particles in rat airways.

EU-funded researchers have developed a new ultrafast X-ray technique which could revolutionise our understanding of structure and function at the atomic and molecular level.

A research team based in Germany are using a new compact hard X-ray source to shine new light on important questions in structural biology.

EU researchers raise concerns over pilot fatigue

A new study released by the EU-funded FUTURE SKY SAFETY project has reported that half of airline pilots believe that fatigue is not taken seriously by airlines, raising questions about safety within the European aviation industry.

New material a breakthrough for magnetic data storage

The amount of data generated on a daily basis is quickly surpassing the storage capabilities of today’s hard drives. In order to keep up, the next generation of hard drives must use materials with magnetic properties capable of being easily manipulated, thus offering higher density and better efficiency.

To meet this demand, two EU-funded research projects have developed just such a material. The new perovskite material features a magnetic order that can be easily changed with heat and without causing a disruption to the material itself.
