NEWBITS - Through an improved understanding of ITS services towards innovative business models

The NEWBITS project aims to gain a better understanding of the dynamically changing conditions affecting C-ITS innovations, and to derive recommendations supporting more efficient policies. Nine project partners are working on new business models that are designed to accelerate the market deployment of C-ITS and render its implementation more sustainable. A new report is discussing barriers and enablers.

Deep in the Atlantic Ocean: High-tech sensors to gather long-term biogeochemical data

The crew of the Royal Research Ship Discovery, a scientific research vessel of the United Kingdom, recently deployed high-technology biogeochemical sensors onto existing ‘Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Program’ (OSNAP) moorings in the Rockall Trough, a major deep-water area in the North Atlantic Ocean.

By taking continuous measurements in this important yet remote location, the sensors will contribute much needed long-term biogeochemical data to further our understanding of the interactions occurring in our ocean.

New plant for producing aerogels built in TUHH’s technology centre

A new plant for producing aerogels – highly porous nanoparticles – has been built in the technology centre at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). The plant, jointly financed by the EU research project “NanoHybrids” and by industry, enables prototype aerogels to be produced for direct industrial tests for the first time.The skill and experience of TUHH’s technical staff made it possible to build the plant on site.

Less than 5% of FP7 bioeconomy projects are ready to enter the market and trigger socio- economic impacts

An analysis by the Horizon 2020 ProBIO project has found that less than 5% of bioeconomy projects funded by the EU’s 7th Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP7) have results with the potential to be introduced to market.
