Now, in connection with the severe environmental situation in the world, and the abundance of applied artificial materials and medical preparations, including beekeeping, beekeepers face an important task to make the industry of beekeeping more environmentally friendly and clean. It is necessary, as far as possible, to reduce the use of artificial materials and antibiotics when keeping bees.

New project to plug the software-stack support gap for energy-efficient computing

Imagine being able to write an application once and have it scheduled from Internet of Things (IoT) sensors to data centres and supercomputers, all while making the most energy-efficient use of the hardware available. This is the main challenge the European project LEGaTO (Low Energy Toolset for Heterogeneous Computing) will tackle over three years of research.

The project, which has a budget of over €5 million and is coordinated by Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), kicks off today and tomorrow in Barcelona.

A new application for acoustic control of bee families APIVOX AUDITOR, will allow people with limited capabilities to be actively used in beekeeping.

The application for smartphones based on Android OS - Apivox Auditor, designed for quick control of bees without opening hives, passed the second testing season in apiaries. The application is based on the theory of acoustic control and this means that the beekeeper does not need to open the hive, in order to find out what is the state the bees at the moment. Such an approach to beekeeping, can allow for people with limited capabilities, to be involved in this not simple business.

Further evidence shows education reduces risk of Alzheimer’s

New research from Cambridge University, supported by European Union funding, has added weight to the theory that education protects against Alzheimer’s disease.

A study just published in the ‘British Medical Journal’ confirms there is a link between education and the build-up of 'plaques' and 'tangles' of misshapen proteins, which lead to the gradual death of brain cells, characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease.
