Safer water in drinking supplies, lakes and rivers

The increasing incidence of hazardous substances in water supplies threatens public health as well as the ecosystem. Novel nano-structured membranes are being developed that will remove heavy metals and drugs from industrial effluents.

Rapid breath analyser detects multiple molecules simultaneously

Most laser setups used to identify molecules in the air can only identify one at a time. Scientists developed a small, simple system to rapidly detect multiple molecules in exhaled breath with high accuracy.

New strategies for fighting Hepatitis B

Despite effective vaccines, hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection still poses a major health problem with two billion people infected worldwide. An EU project is widening the knowledge base on HBV replication and persistence to develop more efficient treatments.

Enhancing quality of life for young cancer survivors

European researchers are working to establish a European research infrastructure for clinical and translational workon childhood and adolescent cancers. The initiative is aiming to deliver more efficacious and less toxic therapies to increase survival rates and to achieve ultimately a better quality of life in young cancer survivors.
