Harmful algae under the microscope

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) are sporadic, largely unpredictable and may seriously disrupt fish farm productivity. Research into a forecasting system for HABs, which could lead to improved sustainable use of marine fish and shellfish resources, is underway.

Governance of security satellites

The Global monitoring for environment and security (GMES) / Copernicus services for security applications are approaching operational maturity. An EU project is investigating the implications of several options for the continuation of effective governance of this facility.

System support for moving goods at port terminals

New cell transfection methodology

The ability to transfect DNA into a cell with high efficiency is important for gene therapy. A European project is dedicated to fundamental investigation of the mechanisms of cell transfection using an innovative microfluidics approach.
