A relatively recent interest in hemp as a building material responds to a global trend that encourages the development of bio-based products and the reduction of carbon emissions. But its use dates back to many centuries ago.

An invisibility cloak is created to conceal sensors and antennas and improve communication

A researcher at the NUP/UPNA-Public University of Navarre has developed two types of invisibility cloak. One of them is useful in concealing sensors and antennas and thus eliminating interference, which would improve the performance of communications systems. The other can be applied in diffuse mediums such as human tissue, which is of interest for biology and medicine. This research is based on metamaterials, artificial structures designed to display characteristics not found in nature.

Bioplastic is booming. The global market for these biomass derived plastics is predicted to grow by 20% over the next five years. Due to environmental and safety concerns around conventional plastics, one sector interested in bioplastics is toys. But, with some big names looking to enter the bioplastic toy arena, do parents really understand bioplastics?

Plastic toys are everywhere and with good reason: plastic is great for making toys. It is cheap and durable, and can be moulded into pretty much any shape.
