The aviation industry is currently responsible for a large portion of global greenhouse gas emissions. New research is improving and testing rotor blade design as part of a larger initiative established to improve the sustainability of commercial aviation.

Two-photon microscopy of T cell activation

Activation of T cells is at the centre of immune response development. The INVIVO TCELL IMAGING project analysed the role of isoforms of phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI3K) in this process.

Safer water in drinking supplies, lakes and rivers

The increasing incidence of hazardous substances in water supplies threatens public health as well as the ecosystem. Novel nano-structured membranes are being developed that will remove heavy metals and drugs from industrial effluents.

Rapid breath analyser detects multiple molecules simultaneously

Most laser setups used to identify molecules in the air can only identify one at a time. Scientists developed a small, simple system to rapidly detect multiple molecules in exhaled breath with high accuracy.
