A new algorithm improves the efficiency of small wind turbines

In recent years, mini wind energy has been developing in a spectacular way. However, level of efficiency of small wind turbines is low. To address this problem, the UPV/EHU’s research group APERT (Applied Electronics Research Team) has developed an adaptative algorithm. The improvements that are applied to the control of these turbines will in fact contribute towards making them more efficient.

Tecnalia cuts the energy consumption of machine tools by 40%

A large machine firstly needs a large volume of material to build it, and secondly a large amount of power to get it going and to use it. The aim of this project within the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme is to improve the competitiveness of factories and to minimize their costs by cutting the consumption of machines, while maintaining the precision of their functions at the same time.

Cryogenic treatment improves the characteristics of materials and cuts their costs

Cryogenic treatment is a thermal process in which the material is subjected to cryogenic temperatures below -153 ºC. CIC marGUNE, the Co-operative Research Centre into High-performance Manufacturing, is coordinating the DURASTEEL line of research that is endeavouring to produce more efficient steels by applying the right thermal treatment routes in order to maximize their performance.
