Shared strategies on biodiversity across Europe

A network of funding organisations has been set up to promote pan-European research on biodiversity. Globally, biodiversity loss will interfere with water filtration, nutrient cycling and pollination of crops.

Biological communities and ecological systems are profoundly affected by human activities. In addition to cultural and ethical values, the diversity and abundance of species are crucial for various processes and ecological services that affect humanity in many respects. Biodiversity has become a major societal challenge.

Gene therapy for acute intermittent porphyria

Despite the challenges, gene therapy remains a viable treatment alternative for severe genetic disorders. An EU-funded consortium is giving patients suffering from acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) a therapeutic option based on the delivery of a functional gene into the liver.

Racing car with electric drive

Drive technology has an electric future – of this Fraunhofer research scientists are in no doubt. At the Sensor + Test measurement fair in Nuremberg from May 14 -16, they will use an electric racing car to present novel solutions for battery management and electronic sensor systems together with an industry partner.
The scientists are right on trend, as even FIA, the governing body for world motor sport, federation of the world’s leading motoring organizations and organizer of Formula 1, is planning a racing series for electric vehicles.
