Combining sustainable soil management with high crop yield

An EU project is devising decision-support tools (DSTs) to help reverse the current trend of soil degradation in Europe. Specially designed so farmers and agricultural advisors can tailor their farm plans, the tools will catalyse improved crop and soil management.

Novel markers for prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is the most frequent male cancer, accounting for 200 000 new cases every year. The PROSPER initiative investigated the expression and impact of non-coding RNAs on prostate cancer development and progression to improve diagnostics and identify new therapeutic targets.

Cell therapy for immunodeficiences

An EU-funded study aims to restore the faith in of the use of gene therapy for treatment of primary immune deficiencies (PIDs). The CELL-PID project utilises genetically modified haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) as a cell-based therapy for building a healthy immune system in patients with PIDs.

Researchers have developed a sensor for aircraft for the real-time detection of wind shear and wake vortex — two little-understood atmospheric hazards. The innovative system will improve passenger and crew safety as well as airport efficiency.
