A proactive approach to ensuring long-term cybersecurity

To address the evolving cybersecurity threat, the EU-funded SHARCS and PQCRYPTO projects are developing the security paradigms, architectures and software needed to ensure our ICT systems are secure and trustworthy.

In today’s connected world, more and more of our day-to-day activities are dependent on cybersecurity. From banking to online shopping, telemedicine, mobile communication, cloud computing and the Internet of Things - society continues to put an increasing amount of sensitive and private information online.

“Big Data Europe” addresses societal challenges with data technologies

The Big Data Europe project has just released the first public version of its open source platform designed to to capture, manage and process the enormous amounts of data being created every day in order to derive meaningful results and make a difference to people’s lives. In 7 pilot studies, it is helping to solve societal challenges by putting cutting edge technology in the hands of experts in fields other than IT.

European researchers simplify optimal software execution on complex electronics

This week marks the completion of the SAVE project, which challenged a team of engineers and researchers to explore how complex hardware systems can more efficiently execute data intensive applications. SAVE has led to a number of innovations in hardware, software and operating system (OS) components. When integrated together, they can reduce application deployment costs and maximize usage of heterogeneous system computing units, resulting in energy efficiency being improved by up to 20%.

International epigenetic project BLUEPRINT delivers beyond expectation

Researchers from the EU-funded BLUEPRINT project join their international colleagues this week at the 2016 International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC) conference in Brussels to report the latest results in understanding blood cell development and blood disease.

BLUEPRINT received €30 million from the European Union to decipher the role of epigenetics in normal and diseased blood cells. Epigenetic effects alter the activity of genes without altering the DNA code, and play an important role in development and disease.
