Smart cities vs “locked-in” cities

One of the key issues facing modern cities today is to avoid municipalities being locked in to technology from a single provider, and to ensure they are free to transition to the most convenient products and services for citizens offered by competitors.

As more and more cities launch projects to become smart, a substantial need is emerging: the ability to share the various models across the world so that they can be replicated anywhere.

A gene defect as a potential gateway for targeted prostate cancer therapy

Heidelberg, 5 September 2016 - The loss of CHD1, one of the most frequently mutated genes in prostate tumors, sensitizes human prostate cancer cells to different drugs, including PARP inhibitors. This suggests CHD1 as a potential biomarker for targeted prostate cancer therapy. These are the results of a study published today in EMBO reports.

A research group from CIQUS (Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials at the University of Santiago de Compostela - USC) reports in Nature Communications the first demonstration of a non-natural chemical reaction in a subcellular compartment.
