BIOrescue: Valorising mushroom compost to create innovative bio-based products

29 September, Pamplona – Creating added value products from mushroom compost is the objective of the BIOrescue project that was successfully launched today.

Mushroom production generates five million tons of compost each year in the European Union. This compost is currently landfilled or used for landscaping purposes even though it contains valuable organic components. In view of transforming this compost into a new income stream for mushroom producers, the BIOrescue project will develop innovative conversion processes to create bio-based products from mushroom compost.

Memristors promise more precise and affordable neuroprosthetics

In a new paper, researchers from the University of Southampton, UK, and members of the EU-funded RAMP project, have demonstrated how memristors could help aid the development of more precise and affordable neuroprosthetics and bioelectric medicines.

Monitoring neuronal cell activity is fundamental to neuroscience and the development of neuroprosthetics but a persistent problem is the device being able to effectively process the neural data in real-time, which in turn imposes restrictive requirements on bandwitdth, energy and computation capacity.

Μαθητές startuppers εντυπωσιάζουν με τις καινοτόμες ιδέες τους

Οι 15χρονοι startuppers από το Γυμνάσιο Αλωνίων Πιερίας, με την καινοτόμα ιδέα τους να δημιουργήσουν τον «Smileybin», έναν έξυπνο κάδο ανακύκλωσης με σύστημα επιβράβευσης για τους χρήστες, κατέκτησαν το πανελλαδικό βραβείο του προγράμματος «Εικονική Επιχείρηση» του Σωματείου Επιχειρηματικότητας Νέων/Junior Achievement Greece και δύο σημαντικά ευρωπαϊκά βραβεία του Junior Achievement Europe.
