A study by the European Parliament assesses the possibility of turning CO2 into methanol for use in transport

Tecnalia has collaborated in a study for the European Parliament’s Science and Technology Options Assessment Panel (STOA) on the future use of methanol, produced from carbon dioxide, in motorised transport. STOA is the panel that advises MEPs in the sphere of Science and Technology.

Deformable mirror corrects errors

Very high power is needed to cut or weld using a laser beam. But this creates its own problem: the beam’s energy deforms the mirrors that are focusing it to a point. When this happens, the beam expands and loses intensity. A new type of mirror can deform itself so as to correct this unwanted deformation. It will be presented at the Optatec trade fair in Frankfurt from May 20 to 22 (hall 3, booth D50).

New laser to watch DNA-proteins interactions

Researchers have found a new way to study how the DNA and proteins interact inside a cell structure. These reactions last only a fraction of a second, and therefore required a new approach to conventional observing methods.

RISC-KIT (Resilience-Increasing Strategies for Coasts – toolKIT) project: Providing the means to enhance societal capacity to anticipate and respond efficiently to coastal risk.

Apart from taking into account climate change, relative sea level rise and rapid economic development as factors influencing coastal vulnerability, RISC-KIT also focuses on the social component of these issues. To this end, an Internal Synthesis Report (Deliverable 1.2) was developed, aggregating interdisciplinary data from 11 Case Study sites.
