HiiL Innovating Justice Challenge Award

Deadline: 1 August 2015
Open to: innovative people from all over the world
Prize: EUR 20,000 and acceleration support with access to funding, networks and expert advice

Description

HiiL is an advisory and research institute for the justice sector, based in The Hague, city of peace and justice. HiiL professionals are leading academics and researchers from various cultural backgrounds. Together, they have many years of experience in places where justice is most needed. HiiL is passionate about making justice work. The core of their work is to improve rule making and conflict resolution processes. In today’s challenging environment that is impossible without innovation. They support clients and other stakeholders doing this together, across borders and based on the best available knowledge. An estimated four billion people do not have access to justice. States are increasingly struggling to provide the justice services citizens require. In the rich world going to court is all too often expensive and time consuming. In many developing countries, courts are understaffed, underfunded and beyond the reach of most people. In many states the rule making mechanisms and formal institutions that should hold governments to account are seen as inadequate. In short: across the globe justice delivery as it has traditionally been organised is under-performing.

From 1 to 17 September 2015 there will be an online campaign. The top three of the online campaign, together with three wildcards progress though the next selection phase. From these six innovations, the three most promising innovations will be invited to the Innovating Justice Forum 2015 in The Hague. Inside the Peace Palace they will be able to compete for the Innovating Justice Awards 2015 and the final cash prize.
