EU-funded researchers have designed a unified, personalised journey planner that is easy to operate. The programme emphasises the use of public transportation in urban areas, making trips both economical and time efficient.
A personalised door-to-door trip planner could be truly invaluable. Many of us spend hours sitting in front of the computer planning business or vacation trips. Finally, those days are over. The WISETRIP project team designed a user-friendly interface that adapts trip guidance to our habits, budget and time constraints.
The programme introduces multimodal international trip planning that combines public transportation with long distance travel. It is an extension of existing journey planners, making programme compatibility a non-issue. Moreover, this is an interactive device that learns your personal habits and plans the next journey accordingly.
WISETRIP project efforts enable customers to plan their travels more efficiently, thus leaving more time available for work or to explore new places, which results in regional economic growth. Special emphasis was given to the incorporation of public transportation in urban areas. The traveller is often unaware of the more feasible and cost-effective means of moving within the metropolitan edge of an international trip. Linking urban transport with international railway, airline or ferry travel through WISETRIP saves money for the traveller and reduces potential gridlocks and traffic jams.
Based on a detailed demonstration plan, the WISETRIP platform was tested under real conditions by a large number of users on a limited number of routes within China, Finland, Greece, Italy and the United Kingdom. Travellers enjoyed external booking and payment systems that were incorporated into specific trip segments. Mobile application of the programme could make the planning of future travel simple and enjoyable.
