European IPR Helpdesk releases a new guide on “Commercialising Intellectual Property”

A comprehensive guide published by the European IPR Helpdesk provides an overview of different ways for commercialising intangible assets and highlights key issues related to Intellectual Property (IP) management during the commercialisation process.

Companies are constantly driven by the need to create and increase their business revenues by bringing new products or services to the market. Regardless of the industry domain, whether in manufacturing or the service sector, businesses create, develop and sell intangible assets. In this regard, commercialisation can be described as the process of bringing IP to the market in view of future profits and business growth. However, successful IP commercialisation is certainly not an easy task, since it may take different forms and depends on a number of internal and external factors such as business objectives, type of IP or economic resources.

Whether companies commercialise their product on their own or build up partnerships (e.g. through licensing), there are vital points to consider for protecting intellectual assets during the commercialisation process.

Aiming to provide an overview of those IP issues and the different commercialisation routes businesses may take, the European IPR Helpdesk has published a comprehensive guide on “Commercialising Intellectual Property”. The guide is available here:

Additionally, the following series of fact sheets dealing separately with individual forms of IP commercialisation is available in the European IPR Helpdesk’s online library:

About the European IPR Helpdesk
The European IPR Helpdesk, funded under the Horizon 2020 programme (Grant Agreement No 641474), is a service initiative that supports cross-border SME and research activities to manage, diffuse and valorise technologies and other Intellectual Property (IP) Rights and IP assets at an EU level. Offering a broad range of informative material, a Helpline service for direct IP support and on-site and online training, the European IPR Helpdesk's main goal is to support IP capacity building along the full scale of IP practices: from awareness to strategic use and successful exploitation. This IP competencies empowerment focuses on EU SMEs, participants and candidates in EU-funded projects, and EU innovation stakeholders for an increased diffusion of IP into the EU innovation ecosystem.
